LASIK, an acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, is a kind of refractive laser eye surgery procedure carried out by ophthalmologists meant for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The procedure is usually a preferred alternative to photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, as it needs less time for full recovery, and the client experiences less pain overall. Lots of patients opt for LASIK as an alternative to wearing corrective glasses or contact lenses. The LASIK technique was discovered by Spanish ophthalmologist Jose Barraquer, who around 1960 developed the first microkeratome, used to cut thin flaps in the cornea and alter its shape, in a procedure called keratomileusis.

Laser Eye Risks
Few people develop debilitating visual symptoms. Some patients develop glare, halos, or double vision that might seriously affect night eyesight. Even with great vision on the vision chart, some clients do not see as well in situations of low contrast, such as at night or in fog, after treatment as compared to before the operation.
